SUNDAY Art Fair Announces 2012 Dates

SUNDAY Art Fair

The ‘SUNDAY’ art fair has announced its 2012 dates which will again coincide with Frieze week. This gallery-led art fair, will now return to London for its third edition from 11-14th October 2012 at Ambika P3, Marylebone Rd.

The fair showcases a selection of 20 young international galleries, SUNDAY is recognised as an integral part of the London, UK and international cultural landscape. Housed in Ambika P3, a 14,000 square foot, triple height subterranean space, SUNDAY is free and open to all and last year welcomed over 6,000 visitors. Over ten new galleries will be making their SUNDAY debut this year. This edition will also feature an extended public programme, including large-scale publishing projects and performances that, each day, will transform the fair’s environment. Already a must-see event, SUNDAY makes a valuable contribution to the most exciting cultural week in London.

SUNDAY aims to provide an easy-going and accessible temporary platform for young galleries to exhibit their artists’ work; it is a fair with no booths or divisions, allowing the exhibiting galleries to each show solo or duo artist presentations that respond directly to the imposing space. Audiences have the opportunity to discover new artists and galleries in an intimate and immediate way.

Unlike Frieze, SUNDAY is free and open to all, aiming to provide ‘an easy going and accessible temporary platform for young galleries’. These galleries have brought together work by the artists they believe to be ‘at the fore of emerging talent’. SUNDAY, fun as it may be, is also, of course, a serious art fair, with wholly serious work on display. A Kassen’s piece ‘Equalise’ is one definite and discombobulating highlight, consisting of a streetlamp lying on the ground, cut in half and off set, next to an image of the lamp – apparently unsevered but situated within a landscape where all else has been dissected and shifted along the post’s real-life fault line.
