Stuart Corner, who has been curator of film at Tate Modern since January 2004, has been appointed the new curator of Media and Preformance at MoMA in New York. During this period he has overseen film and video work for the Tate Collection and Displays, organised an extensive programme of screenings, performances and events and was co-curator of the opening programme for the Tanks at Tate Modern in 2012.

Corner has also curated related film programmes to accompany the exhibitions, and has mounted major retrospectives of key film-makers and pioneers of film and video art - both historical and contemporary.  He was Curator of Public Programmes at Tate Modern from 2002-2004 and then became Tate's first Curator of Film, establishing the film programme as a major component of the curatorial programme. He has been instrumental in developing Tate's collection of time-based media. He was co-curator of the 2007 Lyon Biennial. Stuart is also the co-cu rator of the Whitney Museum of American Art 2014 Biennial.

Chris Dercon, Director of Tate Modern said, ‘In the international film circuit Stuart Comer’s name is as well known as in the world of art museums and art spaces: his knowledge of – and influence in - the world of experimental and independent film is legendary. I have often called him one of the world's top film-programmers. Stuart laid a more than perfect foundation to work from. We thank Stuart for his endless stream of ideas and activities at Tate and wish him lots of success at the cradle of art cinema, in New York'.

Mr Corner will leave Tate Modern in September 2013.
