The Best Valentines Created By A-List international Contemporary Artists

Bookmark and Share

Today is Valentines day, a time when you show your appreciation to someone that you desire or love by sending them a card. So what does the card actually say about you? and does your choice actually matter?  We at ArtLyst think that it does, so here is a competition devoted to testing your knowledge about art and aesthetics. We will give you the names of seven of the eight works of art below and all you need to do is match (left to right starting at the top), the names to the photos,  but just to throw in a wobbler we have left one name off. On that work of art all you need to do is name the artist. We will be giving away two pairs of tickets to Art13 London's coolest new Contemporary Art fair as a prize. Remember to send in your answers to: competitions@artlyst.com We will draw the winners and contact you by the end of the month. Art13 takes place 1-3 march 2013.

Art13: is the most exciting new art fair to launch in London in a decade. 129 of the world’s leading galleries from 30 countries will be showing thousands of artworks. Whether your interest is painting, sculpture, photography, prints and editions or multimedia, this is a great place to discover and buy great art. With prices ranging from £100 to £500,000, there really is something to suit everyone.

About the artists:  Jim Dine, Banksy, Robert Indiana, Jeff Koons, Tracey Emin, Peter Blake, Damien Hirst

Jim Dine: During the 1960s, Dine's name was inextricably linked with pop art. But he made a dramatic shift during the 1970s, devoting himself to drawing from life. He is best known for his heart paintings, drawings and prints.

Banksy: The legendary UK graffiti artist Banksy's work typically includes satirical social and political commentary, and ranges from murals to sculpture and installation, often playing with the contextual aspects of the work.

Robert Indiana: One of the pre-eminent figures of American art since the 1960s, Robert Indiana has been a pioneer of assemblage art, hard-edge abstraction and pop art. Over the past five decades, Indiana’s work has explored the power of abstraction and language, American identity and personal history.

Jeff Koons: Won international recognition as a radical exponent of Neo-Geo, an American movement concerned with appropriation and parody. Following the example of Pop artists of the 1960s, Koons used his work to reflect the commercial systems of the modern world

Tracey Emin: whose work is one of disclosure, using her life events as inspiration for works ranging from painting, drawing, video and installation, to photography, needlework and sculpture. Emin reveals her hopes, humiliations, failures and successes in candid and, at times, excoriating work that is frequently both tragic and humorous.
