The winner of the 2012 Catlin Art Prize is Julia Vogl, a 2011 graduate of the Slade School of Fine Art at University College London. She is the sixth winner of the annual Catlin Art Prize, a competition showcasing the work of recent graduates of UK art schools.

Julia Vogl won the 2012 Catlin Art Prize for her ‘social sculpture’ titled ‘Let's Hang Out’. The work invites visitors to create a communal area by selecting and affixing coloured carpet titles that colour-correspond with Julia's suggestions of various pastimes (such as ‘call Mum’, ‘tweet’, etc.). The work will evolve throughout the duration of the Catlin Art Prize exhibition while encouraging visitors to interact – and hang out.

She received the award and a cheque for £5,000 from Stephen Catlin, chief executive of the Catlin Group, at a ceremony held Wednesday evening. Stephen Catlin, chief executive of Catlin Group Limited, said:

“The finalists for this year’s Catlin Art Prize are all tremendously talented, and I am delighted to announce that Julia Vogl is this year’s winner for a work that allows viewers to get really involved with Julia’s art. The past winners of the Catlin Art Prize have gone on to great success, and I am sure that Julia will follow in their footsteps. “Catlin is proud to sponsor a competition that encourages young UK artists to raise their games whilst helping them to develop their careers. I congratulate Julia and the other nine finalists on the quality of their art and wish them the best of fortune in the future.”

A second prize, The Visitor Vote, was contested by all 10 finalists. Adeline de Monseignat received a cheque for £2,000.  Her 'creapture' Mother/HEB, combined blown glass and vintage furs. Votes were cast via the Art Catlin website and a ballot box at the venue. The exhibition is open until 25 May at Londonewcastle Project Space - 28 Redchurch St, Shoreditch, London, E2 7DP.
