The Brazilian programme as part of the London 2012 Festival celebrates the hand over by London to Rio for the 2016 games. The Brazilian elements will be integrated into the 12-week cultural program that will run from 21 June until 9 September, bringing together leading artists from around the world in events across the whole of the UK. The London 2012 Festival will present the best of contemporary Brazilian culture and creativity. In addition, it will create opportunities for Brazilian artists to collaborate and create relationships with established and emerging British artists.
The aMAZEm project was created by Marcos Saboya and Gualter Pupo, aMAZEme immerses the audience in a labyrinth of books. The audience unexpectedly come into contact with the books installation, which stimulates their curiosity, knowledge and creativity. By participating in the installation, the audience discovers new textures, images and emotions. They become surrounded- hypnotized – by words and thoughts, designs and patterns. There appear to be secrets hidden in the installation’s walls; walls of up to 2.5 metres high, built from thousands of books, forming a large Maze of more than 500 square metres. The construction of the labyrinth and the public’s participation will be filmed by video cameras and sent to the “aMAZEme” website as well as to social media sites. Touch screens will be installed to look up information and to screen content, which will also be shown in monitors throughout the installation. The public will be able to navigate through this hypnotic and surprising “book labyrinth” or attend daily performances from literary figures.
The maze isn’t the first collaboration between Saboya and Pupo; the duo previously worked together to create a smaller book sculpture in the Leblon shopping mall in Rio de Janeiro. That project featured many of the same elements that are displayed at the London maze, but it was much less ambitious. Judging from the plans, the aMAZEme labyrinth in London looks like a maze you could actually get lost in. The maze was inspired by legendary Argentinean writer Jorge Luis Borges, who had a lifelong fascination with both libraries and labyrinths.

aMAZEme Project is showcased at Southbank Centre Clore Ballroom, London, from 31 July to 26 August. This free event is perfect for a family day out where you will be amazed by the artistic creation on display. aMAZEme is an exciting art project that unties literature, performance, installation, image and cinema. The visual creations will stimulate and captivate an audience unexpectedly drawing them into the books installation.

The culmination of the Cultural Olympiad will be the London 2012 Festival, a spectacular 12-week nationwide celebration bringing together leading artists from across the world with the very best from the UK, from Midsummers Day on 21 June and running until the final day of the Paralympic Games on 9 September 2012.The London 2012 Festival will celebrate the huge range, quality and accessibility of the UK’s world-class culture including dance, music, theatre, the visual arts, fashion, film and digital innovation, giving the opportunity for people across the UK to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The aMAZEme installation will be part of the 12-week London 2012 Festival, which will showcase artists from all over the world in conjunction with the 2012 Summer Olympics. At the Southbank Centre from July 26th – 30th. There will be various projects running from 1-4 August, starting with ‘Sand Walk with Me’ which encourages you to remove your shoes and feel the ground move around beneath your feet as you walk.
