Exhibition
100Sqft - Cholmeley Boys Club
100sqft is the brainchild of artist Carne Griffiths, who was previously creative director of Hand & Lock - the UK’s longest established hand embroidery firm with a stellar client list. The idea is to take 100 artists from around the world and give them 1sqft of space to express themselves. The featured artists can choose their position in a 10'x10' grid and watch the exhibition unfold online at www.100sqft.co.uk . When all the squares online are full of artists’ images, the originals are exhibited at a pop up venue. The exhibition responds to the difficulties emerging artists face in showcasing their work to the public. 100sqft welcomes outsider artists, hobbyists and graduates and will place their work alongside pieces from established artists. There is no selection process (a deliberate tactic) and the project brings together an eclectic range of work ranging from digital prints and mixed media collages to oil paintings and low-relief sculptures.
The Launch Party for 100sqft will be on the 1st August 2010 and features a live canvas collaboration with attending artists contributing to a large canvas. Entertainment is provided by DJs, ‘Our Friends Eclectic’.
Artists pay just £25 to register their work for the 100sqft exhibition and this entitles them to: representation on www.100sqft.co.uk , their work available for sale online, an organised launch event, publicity through social networking sites and promotion of work through press articles and web and print features.
100sqft runs back to back with exhibitions being planned to coincide with each complete grid. The website features an online grid for the purpose of booking work in for subsequent shows at 100sqft.co.uk and artists of all persuasions are welcome to make submissions.
