Helium is a colourless, odourless, tasteless, non-toxic, inert gas. The name is derived from the Greek Helios meaning sun. Most helium was formed during the Big Bang as a result of nuclear fusion of hydrogen. Except for hydrogen, helium is the most abundant element found in the universe and constitutes 10% of all matter.

The word vacuum is derived from the Latin term for empty, but in reality, no volume of space can ever be perfectly empty. A perfect vacuum with a gaseous pressure of absolute zero is a philosophical concept never observed in practice. The first everyday use a the vacuum was the incandescent light bulb which contains a partial vacuum.

Alice Bradshaw works with a wide range of media and processes involving the manipulation of everyday objects and materials. Mass-produced, anonymous objects are often rendered dysfunctional caricatures of themselves, addressing concepts of purpose and futility. Alice creates or accentuates subtleties, blurring distinctions between the absurd and the mundane, with the notion that the environment the work exists in becomes integral to the work itself.

Alice is based in Halifax (UK) has exhibited prolifically in the North of the UK and internationally including at several film festivals. Recent exhibitions and festivals include Repurposes at the Baron and Ellin Gordon Galleries in Virginia (US), The Big M / AND Festival in Preston, Short Cuts Film Festival at the University of Leeds, Cabinet of Curiosities, 13th International Contemporary Artists' Book Fair, at the University of Leeds, Contents May Vary at NoiseLab in Manchester and Contents May Vary at Red Gallery in Hull.

Alice is co-founding member of Manchester based artist collective Contents May Vary, co-founding curator of Fundada Artists' Film Festival and she also co-directed Temporary Art Space in Halifax in 2009.
