See some of the best contemporary art in Britain showcased at London's Tate Britain gallery. Altermodern in London The Tate Britain's new exhibition, Altermodern, features photography, film, video and ambitious installations, many of which are being shown for the first time. A New Form of Art for the 21st Century "Gateway"-Getaway 2008-09 by Franz Ackermann Altermodern (or alternative modern) is described by curator Nicolas Bourriaud as a new form of art for the 21st century. Bourriaud is hoping to encourage debate around the emergence of "alternative modern" as a new era, following on from the post-modernist era of the 1960s. Whatever your opinion, Altermodern is sure to provide a lively talking point and thought provoking displays. Nicolas Bourriaud at London's Tate Britain Liquid Crystal Environment by Gustav Metzger Nicolas Bourriaud is one of Europe's most respected curators and has been working on the Altermodern exhibition at Tate Britain since 2007. The exhibition is the London gallery's fourth Triennial exhibition and is being supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. Bourriaud previously founded the influential contemporary art gallery Palais de Tokyo in Paris and is also Curator of Contemporary Art at the Gulbenkian Foundation.
