Alfred Wallis (b. 1855, UK), Lucie Rie (b. 1902, Vienna), Barbara Hepworth (b. 1903, UK), Lawrence Weiner (b. 1942, USA), Carol Bove (b. 1972, Switzerland), Bojan Sarcevic (b. 1974, Serbia), Katy Moran (b. 1975, UK). Tate St Ives presents seven autonomous but complementary one room displays by seven international artists and makers. Bringing together historic and contemporary figures working throughout the last 80 years in both fine and applied art, the exhibitions set up various conversations around art, design, the development and influence of the avant-garde, and its subsequent assimilation into mainstream culture. A significant body of contemporary practice is actively re-engaging with the legacies of radical modernism, critically revisiting the period in terms of both style and ideology. These new exhibitions present a number of highly-acclaimed international contemporary artists alongside major figures from the development of British and international modernism. Included is a cycle of ten wall text works from 1988 by Lawrence Weiner, part of the Artist Rooms collection of international contemporary art gifted by Anthony d'Offay.
