Converse DAZED 2010 Emerging Artists Award - Stephen Friedman Gallery
In
late
April,
Converse
and
Dazed
launched
The
Converse/Dazed
2010
Emerging
Artists
Award,
a
major
new
art
competition
designed
to
offer
an
exciting
platform
to
emerging
artists,
offering
a
first
prize
of
£6,000
and
an
exhibition
at
Stephen
Friedman
Gallery,
one
of
London's
leading
contemporary
art
galleries,
in
July
and
August
2010.
The
award
panel
of
highly
esteemed
artists,
presenters
and
fashion
insiders,
including
Tim
Marlow,
Sadie
Coles,
Isobel
Harbison,
Francesca
Gavin,
Mark
Titchner
and
Tom
Morton,
have
decided
the
shortlist.
The
competition
was
open
to
all
UK based
artists
under
the
age
of
35,
not
represented
by
a
gallery
and
not
currently
studying.
Artists
of
all
genres
were
invited
to
submit
their
most
innovative
and
interesting
work
for
the
judges'
consideration.
There
was
an
overwhelming
response
of
an
incredibly
high
calibre.
The
five
shortlisted
artists
and
one
overall
winner
have
been
selected
on
the
basis
of
what
the
panel
judge
to
be
the
most
innovative,
interesting
and
well
produced
work.
The
winner
will
receive
a
cash
prize
of
£6,000
and
each
of
the
shortlisted
artists
£1,000.
The winner
Peter
Ainsworth
Graduating
in
Fine
Art
and
then
receiving
an
MA
in
Photography
from
London
College
of
Communication
in
2007,
Peter
Ainsworth's
work
explores
the
urban
landscape,
how
our
interactions
are
affected
by
our
environment
and
the
marks
that
human
activity
leaves
upon
this
landscape.
The shortlist
Francesca
Anfossi
Since
graduating
from
The
Slade
School
of
Art
in
2008,
Francesca
has
taken
part
in
exhibitions
at
Studio
Voltaire,
Tate
Modern,
and
Hayward
Gallery
Concrete
amongst
many
others.
Interested
in
the
occurrences
of
everyday
life
and
how
we
perceive
them,
Anfossi
takes
mementos
as
her
inspiration
for
her
sculpture,
video
and
projection
work.
Steve
Bishop
Canadian
born,
British based
artist
Steve
Bishop
graduated
from
the
Royal
College
of
Art
in
2008.
His
sculptures
employ
a
sensitive
appropriation
of
found
objects
relating
to
their
form
and
identity
outside
of
the
art work
itself.
Laura
Buckley
Laura
Buckley
completed
her
MA
at
Chelsea
College
of
Art
and
Design
in
2007.
Her
work
has
been
featured
at
176,
London,
in
the
Derek
Jarman
Film
Programme
at
the
Serpentine
Gallery,
London
and
in
numerous
group
shows
in
the
UK
and
Europe.
Buckley
creates
immersive
dream‐
like
environments
in
the
making
of
sculptural,
multi‐screen
installations,
combining
video,
three‐ dimensional
elements
and
sound.
Light
plays
a
lead
role
in
her
installations
as
it
interacts
between
projectors,
structures
and
their
surrounding
walls.
Her
work
is
included
in
various
public
and
private
collections
including
the
Zabludowicz,
David
Roberts
and
University
of
the
Arts
London
collection.
Jess
Flood-Paddock
Multi‐disciplinary
sculptor
Jess
Flood‐Paddock's
works
employ
objects,
video
and
images.
She
aims
to
question
contemporary
awareness
questioning
how
we
perceive
and
assess
objects
around
us.
The
winner
will
be
announced
a
week
before
the
exhibition.
The
shortlisted
artists
and
the
winner
will
exhibit
work
at
the
renowned
Stephen
Friedman
Gallery
in
London
from
July
30
to
August
21,
2010.

London's

contemporary
art
galleries.
Established
in
1995,
the
gallery
now
occupies
three
spaces
on
Old
Burlington
Street,
London
W1.
Known
for
its
international
outlook,
the
gallery

championed
artists
at

beginning

leading
art
stars
