DIALECTS III: ICONOLOGY - Pushkin House
The group show Dialects returns to Pushkin House for the third year running with participating artists, both Russian and European, exploring the dialects of the icon through a wide range of media, from photography to painting and sculpture.
Departing from the previous themes of the show that focused on Russian identity and visual art as a language, Dialects III aims to broaden the exploration of these themes through the concept of iconology.
The term iconology is used in this context as an interpretation and study of that which is central to the dialectical power of an image: the symbolic, the ideal, the representative; but also the effigy, the idol, the portrait. What affects does ‘the icon’ produce?
