Drawing on Ideas: Chaired Discussion - Royal British Society of Sculptors
A chaired discussion with all the artists will take place to explore the origins of ideas, their interpretation and the subsequent impact upon practice.
Nature is our surrounding force. It inspires us with its inherent creativity from a microscopic to a macroscopic level, new perspectives emerge and our perception is challenged leading to enquiry. It is an ongoing and evolving activity that ignites our imaginations. In our everyday lives we are immersed in a sea of stimulus; today more than ever advances in technology impact upon our methods of exchange. Through new paths of communication we discover new ways to explore and examine our thoughts. At the heart of these investigations is our natural instinct, a human endeavour to seek what is not obvious to the naked eye. Introducing ways of experiencing the world and engage the mind through the senses. It is this human quality that lies at the root of this exhibition.
Drawing on Ideas examines how we extract and then process information from the things that we see, feel, hear, taste and smell. It emphasises our individuality and our differences. How we evaluate and assess information to understand the world around us. The essence of what we know or what we think we know is challenged everyday simply by what exists and what is created. The artists selected for this exhibition present these questions through their respective works and invite the audience to question the paradox of what is and what could be, creating a dialogue where opinions can be shared and expressed.
