Drawing on Ideas: Simon Linington & William Mackrell - Live performance - Royal British Society of Sculptors
As part of the exhibition, Simon Linington and William Mackrell will engage audiences for a one evening event, with a live feed/performance within the RBS galleries. Not to be missed and more details to follow.
Simon Linington and William Mackrell’s body of work explores the concept of interpretation and representation. The two artists began by writing a set of rules that were designed to provoke an abstract description of an object. These rules were given to a mutual friend who was tasked with constructing this description. The identity of the object was not revealed to the two artists. Thus, working in isolation from one another and responding to the commissioned description of the object, they each produced sketches to illustrate their individual interpretation. From this they created technical drawings giving an indication of dimensions and colour and these were given to a single fabricator to make in an agreed material. Linington and Mackrell exhibit a body of work that documents this journey from beginning to end and it provides a fascinating insight into our individuality and differences when presented with the same information.
