On Saturday the 4th of February Fox&Squirrel will be hosting an art walk through Brixton. Fox&Squirrel Art Walks have been listed no1 in the Guardian's list of best London Walks.

Join us on the 4th of February at 2pm for a very special walk through Brixton.

Brixton has a checkered history in the story of London. First a genteel destination for Victorian shoppers, who enjoyed the engineering feats of the market arcades and electricity (from which Electric Avenue gets it’s name), it became synonymous with race issues which came to a head with the notorious Brixton Riots. Since the area has quietly undergone a transformation in fortunes with the Academy and varied nightlife pulling in visitors, and the market itself undergoing a rejuvenation to the extent that the Observer has called it ‘the most exciting food destination in Europe.’

The area plays host to an amazing network of artist studios. Low rents, available space and its proximity to Camberwell College of Art and Goldsmiths make it an ideal area for artists to base themselves in. This art walk will enter into this private world of the artist's studio, visiting Eva Ackroyd, Phoebe Mitchell and Sarah Praill. Here we will be introduced to their work, and witness first hand the process of making which contemporary artists are involved in.

We will also be visiting Photofusion, London’s largest independent photography space. They currently present the first solo show of photographic artist Natasha Caruana. Natasha’s work is grounded in research, drawing from archives, the Internet and personal narratives. The exhibition will show four bodies of work, The Red Purse, The Other Woman, Married Man, and the more recent A Fairytale for Sale. Natasha’s work combines a wry sense of humour with a complex cultural commentary on the world of love, dating and relationships. The work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and has been shortlisted for the National Magazine Awards and The Deutsche Bank Pyramid Prize. In 2010 Caruana was named as the one to watch in the Royal Photographic Society Journal and the British Journal of Photography, and in 2011 she was selected by the Humble Arts Foundation as one of 18 leading female art photographers working in the UK.

Exclusively for Fox&Squirrel Art Walkers Caruana will be talking us through her works on display.

The walk starts at 2pm sharp from Brixton Academy and costs £15. We highly recommend booking online to avoid disappointment. To do please click here
