Liminal is a new body of work by British / Iranian artist Katayoun Dowlatshahi. The art works have been produced from double exposures onto 6 x 6 roll film as unique works of art; combining both the photograph and its hand drawn mirror image. These works have a more formal relationship with the landscape yet what they represent is a more experiential and very personal journey; they are by the nature of their production artificial landscapes, self reflexive and evocative.

The aesthetic of this work is rooted in the landscape, architecture and culture of both Iran and Britain. Significant to the Persian psyche is the inherent notion of ‘Paradise’ manifested in the real world as a physical ‘Garden’. The iconic images of man made structures known as ziggurats, made to emulate the sacred mountains of Babylon, Sumer and Persia, begin to take form in this work as imposing landscapes.

These works are being exhibitied alongside Carbon Photographs on glass and paper and experimental videos.
