This years fair saw over 100 leading Modern British and contemporary art galleries brought together for the 23rd edition of the London Art Fair – the UK’s largest Modern British and
Contemporary art fair – at the Business Design Centre, Islington.
Every year, 23,000 visitors enjoy the work of over 1,000 leading artists ranging from Modern British masters to the most recent contemporary talent. Galleries are chosen by a selection
committee and include major UK art dealers such as Richard Green, FAS and Jonathan Clark Fine Art, as well as younger contemporary spaces. Established returning galleries will be
joined by newcomers to the fair; Poussin Gallery, Pratt Contemporary, Golden Thread Gallery (Belfast) and CHARLIE SMITH london.
The fair includes the highest-quality paintings, sculptures, drawings, installations, photographs, videos and editioned prints and multiples. Situated alongside the galleries in the main fair are two curated sections focusing on younger galleries, new work and contemporary photography: Art Projects and Photo50. Art Projects has now been a major part of London Art Fair for six years. Established as one of the most exciting sections of the Fair, it features solo shows, curated group displays and large-scale installations with galleries from across the world. At London Art Fair 2011 these will include Bearspace, Ordinary–Light Photography, Chisenhale/Studio Voltaire and Platform A. In its 5th year, Photo50 is a showcase for contemporary photography featuring established artists and less well known figures selected by a distinguished panel. This year’s panel includes Sebastien Montabonel, European Senior Specialist in Photographs at Phillips de Pury, and Zelda Cheatle, Curator and Director of the Tosca Fund Photography Collection. All the works shown are for sale and members of the panel will champion the artists they have nominated. A Photography Focus Day on Wednesday 18th January will feature a series of discussions and tours dedicated to contemporary photography.
You’ll also find solo shows and curated group displays in our Art Projects section, with galleries drawn from across the world, while Photo50 is a showcase for contemporary photography with 50 works selected by a distinguished panel.
Art Projects has now been a major part of London Art Fair for six years. In 2010 it expanded into a new space with 25 projects featuring emerging artists and new work.
