Newspeak: British Art Now Part II - Saatchi Gallery
The second part of the Saatchi Gallery's showcase of recent Britsh art titled, Newspeak: British Art Now Part II is now on view in the newish Chelsea space.
The exhibition provides an expansive insight into the art being made in the UK today. Far from manifesting a visual language in decline, which the Orwellian title might suggest, the exhibition celebrates a new generation of artists for whom the stimulus of our hyper-intensified, codified, contemporary world provides a radical pathway to a host of new forms and images.
From sculpture and painting, to installation and photography, artists here employ a hybrid of traditional and
contemporary techniques and materials to create a new language with which to articulate the wikified world around them. In this melting pot, east merges with west, celebrity with classicism, fantasy with obsessive formalism. This explosion of new and vigorous forms is an exciting indicator of the ongoing and future strength of contemporary art in Britain.

In October 2008, the Saatchi Gallery re-opened in the 70,000 sq. ft Duke of York’s HQ building on King’s Road in the heart of London. With free admission to all shows, the Saatchi Gallery aims to bring contemporary art to the widest audience possible. The first two exhibitions, The Revolution Continues: New Art from China and Unveiled: New Art from the Middle East, were ranked as the first and second most visited shows in London in The Art Newspaper’s survey of 2009 attendance figures. The Saatchi Gallery attracted over 1.2 million visitors in its first year since relocating to Chelsea.
