Galerie 8 is pleased to present Unbridled, Unveiled - a site-specific installation by Sarah Pager in the ongoing construction site that in Spring 2011 will become permanently occupied by Galerie 8.
In an arena bare of all but the most essential architectural necessities, Sarah Pager invites us to witness her 7 brides and all their mirrors in a transformation of the detritus of daily ritualistic life into graceful figures that allude to elemental struggles against limitations and boundaries - A becoming itself mirrored by the settings’ aspirations.
Referencing the tale of the Rape of the Sabines, Pager suspends these 7 brides torn between their husbands and fathers amongst the ruins of contemporary society. These intimate utilitarian objects are removed from their shells as the familiar is transformed into the ethereal, and the relics of everyday domesticity that had been tossed away shed their past and morph into graceful figures, suspended weightlessly throughout the space.
Sarah Pager recently completed her Postgraduate Diploma with Distinction at Chelsea College of Art and Design and is currently undertaking an MFA at Goldsmiths. She recently had a solo exhibition at Edel Assanti Project Space and her work has been shown throughout the UK including Ikon Touring and the ICA. Pager has also been shortlisted for the Future Map 2010 exhibition of the best emerging talent from the University of the Arts London.
