Auction
Photographs - 19 May 2009 - Sotheby's (London)
Sotheby's holds regularly-scheduled, twice-yearly sales of photographs in its two principal locations, New York and London, with occasional photographs sales in both Amsterdam and Paris. In New York, sales are typically held in April and October; and in London, May and November. In addition, there may be special sales held at other times during the year, such as the London auction of works from the Collection of Marie-Thérèse and André Jammes in October 1999, and the New York auction of Important Photographs from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in February 2006. Sotheby's was the first international auction house to instigate regular sales of photographs at auction, beginning in 1971 in London, and in 1975 in New York. We sell photographs of all types and from all decades, from salt prints and daguerreotypes of the 1840s, to contemporary photographs made as recently as the 1990s.
