The Open Prize - Open Gallery
Open Gallery is pleased to announce the premiere of video works by the 10 artists short listed for the Open Prize. Presented in the Nichols and Clarke building behind Bishopsgate, the labyrinth-like disused Victorian warehouse will allow visitors to encounter each artist’s work one by one as they explore the forgotten and theatrically lit spaces of a crumbling monument to British industry.
Since last Autumn, Open have been running a competition for young artists working within the video painting medium. In July, the work of 10 shortlisted artists will be exhibited in the stunning disused Nichols and Clarke warehouse on Bishopsgate. The winner will be selected from this group, receiving funding towards their future video projects and future exhibitions with Open Gallery.
The prize will be judged by Ziba de Weck (Parasol Unit), Marc Valli (Elephant and Magma Books), Charlotte Bonham-Carter (ICA) and Hilary Lawson (Artscape Project), and awarded during the private view and prize ceremony on Thursday 22 July.
