Transformation and Revelation: UK Design for Performance 2007-2011 - Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama
‘Transformation & Revelation’ UK Design for Performance 2007 – 2011 is a unique opportunity to preview this extraordinary collection of work before it travels in part to represent the UK at the 2011 Prague Quadrennial of Performance and Space in June. A selection of designs will be on display at the V&A from 17th March – 30th September 2012 and will also be available as a UK touring exhibition.
This is a selection of the most innovative and ground breaking designs for performance realised between 2007 to 2011 by some of the UK’s most talented and prolific theatre designers.
Designs on display range from Antony Gormley’s 2011 Olivier Award winning designs for Sutra for Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and the Shaolin Warrior Monks at Sadler's Wells, John Pawson's designs for Wayne McGregor's Chroma at the Royal Ballet, Paul Brown's designs for Aida at the monumental lakeside Bregenz Festspiele, as well as work from esteemed designers Yolanda Sonnabend, John MacFarlane, Peter Mumford and Bob Crowley, fresh from designing Alice in Wonderland for the Royal Ballet to widespread critical acclaim. Also displayed are 2012 Olympic Ceremony designer Es Devlin’s designs for the Lady Gaga Monsterball Tour, Ian MacNeil’s new designs for the New York version of Billy Elliot, and Lion King designer Richard Hudson’s latest works. The exhibition includes over 200 exhibits from set, costume, lighting, video and sound designers, theatre consultants and architects, and also presents emerging talents such as Garance Marneur, overall winner of the Linbury Prize for Stage Design, 2007
