Recently Badept artist Adrian Pritchard has developed art works and kinetic installations using viscous materials as a means for the viewer to engage in the ever changing qualities of the work as it unfolds.
For this particular installation “unsteady states” Adrian is playing with the concept of "steady states" which has relevance in many fields, in particular thermodynamics and economics.
The title is not only relative to the physical process of stretching and tearing but is also suggestive of our current economic climate in relation to the context of the display within an empty shop premises. "Our economy is clearly not a steady state affair; the patterns of economical boom and bust are demonstrated through out history. The stretching and snapping of the gloop material is a kin to expanding economies that have to give at some point via a weakness within the structure. In reality this is a universal process of action and reaction."
"Unsteady States" is part of the Blackpool Council Culture Shops Project funded by the Arts Council Lottery scheme.
