Banksy Identity Again Linked To Massive Attack Tour Schedule

In 2008 Robin Gunningham, a former Bristol public schoolboy was outed as the graffiti artist Banksy. Now eight years later questions still remain as to the true identity of the artist as he has never been positively identified. The latest speculation and I repeat this is only tabloid tittle/tattle is that Banksy is a member of the Bristol-based band Massive Attack and could be specifically Robert ‘3D’ Del Naja, the founding member of the group.

The evidence leading to this conclusion has been based on the number of Banksy works of art which appear during or after Massive Attack gigs. Scientists analysing his work also believe it could be him.Banksy if he actually exists or a collective group of artists could be behind the works or could be massive fans of Massive Attack. Logical…right? We at Artlyst think this is another stab in the dark created by a certain tabloid newspaper in order to sell the rag!

The unnamed (by us) journalist has created a map to prove his point and that is, “Banksy murals around the world on at least six occasions more than a dozen appeared shortly before or after Massive Attack gigs in the same cities over the past 12 years”.  “3D was a graffiti artist in the 1980s and has admitted he is friends with Banksy – but the journalist’s new research concludes he may be the artist himself”.  “A rumour exists from 2010 that his work that went up around North America was his work but were not necessarily painted by him, but rather by a street team that happened to be following the Massive Attack tour”.

According to the said tabloids investigation; “ Six Banksy murals were reported in San Francisco on May 1, 2010, after Massive Attack performed a two-night stint in the city on April 25 and 27”. Massive Attack played Toronto a week later before more new Banksy murals were reported there.

Later on that tour, Massive Attack head to Boston’s Chinatown a day after a Banksy appeared there. Similar patterns are reported in 2006 when Massive Attack embarked on a US tour, which included a slot at the Hollywood Bowl, LA, a week before Banksy’s Barely Legal exhibition in the city”.  OK here is the map as presented in the unnamed tabloid…What do you think???
