Berlin Gallery Weekend, kicked off last night in the German capital, with 54 participating galleries in the official program as well as a number of collateral events. Last night Artlyst attended a special dinner for the first anniversary of the House of Egorn which is currently showing the artist Yi Dai.

 Berlin is one of the most relevant gallery hubs on the planet, a result of cheap rents and an abundance of talented artists from all over the world who have made this city their home.

Highlights this year include  an exhibition by Wolfgang Tilmanns at Galerie Buchholz, Harland Miller at Blain Southern, Oscar Murillo, Johann König’s St Agnes Art Church  garden, which will be open to the public for the first time and British artists Mark Wallinger and Jim Lambie.

Désiré Feuerle the international collector and dealer is offering a preview of the Feuerle Collection (Hallesches Ufer 70, open daily from April 29 – May 7),The official opening of his new private museum, designed by the British architect John Pawson opens in the autumn.

Museum exhibition highlights running concurrently with Gallery Weekend include “Artist of the Year” Basim Magdy’s solo show at Deutsche Bank Kunsthalle; photographs by Stephen Shore and Hans Peter Feldmann at C/O Berlin, Erwin Wurm at Berlinische Galerie; Julian Rosefeldt’s manifesto project with Cate Blanchett at Hamburger Bahnhof; Isa Genzken and Günter Brus at Martin-Gropius-Bau; “Demopolis”, a show dedicated to public space and architecture at Akademie der Künste, and a large survey of architect Jürgen Mayer H’s work at Haus am Waldsee.
