Brazilian Association of Contemporary Art Announces Art Basel Miami Programme

ABACT, the Brazilian Association of Contemporary Art and ApexBrasil are delighted to announce plans for Art Basel Miami Beach including a talk as part of the Art Salon Programme which will bring to light new research on the Latin American art market.

This year will see a strong presence of Brazilian art at Art Basel Miami Beach, with 13 galleries presenting work across the Art Galleries, Art Nova and Art Platform sectors and one at Art Miami, maintaining a high level of gallery attendance at the Miami fairs from years past. Brazilian gallery presence in Miami builds on the success of Brazilian galleries at the 2012 edition of Frieze Art Fair and Frieze Masters in London, where eight Brazilian galleries were spread across the two fairs.

As part of Art Basel Miami Beach’s Art Salon, ABACT and ApexBrasil will present a panel discussion entitled “Latin American Art Markets: Challenges and Opportunities in Brazil and Mexico.” Led by Charmaine Picard, Critic and Writer for The Art Newspaper, the talk will provide an engaging discussion on current trends and benefits from the experience of Ana Leticia Fialho, Brazilian Art Market Researcher and Mireya Escalante, Director of the Isabel and Agustin Coppel Collection, Mexico. The discussion will draw on a ground-breaking study carried out by ABACT/ApexBrasil on the Brazilian art market between October 2011 and March 2012 and will give insight into the current state of production and sales by Latin American galleries, their place in the global market and will suggest predictions for the future.
