The Catlin Guide launches its 2012 edition, with selected works by 40 of the UK’s most promising new graduate artists, as recommended by a wide survey of curators, collectors, gallerists and course tutors. Each individual profile in the catalogue details future exhibitions, projects and aspirations for 2012. The guide is a strictly limited edition collector’s book which will be for sale at the London Art Fair between January 18th and 22nd 2012, stand, P24, in the Art Projects section, at the Business Design Centre, Islington during this well attended fair.
The Catlin Guide will be available alongside work by many of the featured artists. The Catlin Art Prize. Now entering its sixth year, is an annual event showcasing the most promising art school graduates one year on from their degree exhibitions. The Prize is unique in providing the artists with the time and opportunity to develop their practice, encouraging them to demonstrate their progress by producing a new body of work to be exhibited in May. The selected artists are taken from The Catlin Guide (a survey of new graduate artists in the UK) and are considered to be producing work of an outstanding quality which demonstrates their capacity to make a significant mark in the art world during the next decade.
Each year, curator and art writer Justin Hammond visits MA and BA degree shows across the UK and picks 40 of the most talented UK graduates for inclusion. The Catlin Guide is thus the only publication to provide an authoritative overview of the graduate art scene. Many of the artists showcased in previous editions of The Catlin Guide have already gone on to feature in major international exhibitions. The Catlin Guide itself is fast becoming a collector’s item. The first edition has sold out and is changing hands at inflated prices, while just a few copies of the 2011 Guide remain. The Catlin Guide 2012 will be published on 18th January and will be available from Amazon, Culture Label and selected book sellers (£12.99). Each copy provides details of future shows, news of where to see and buy artists’ work and full colour reproductions of each artist’s key pieces.
