“What people don’t realise about Hackney WickED is the honesty of the festival; it is made from the energy of the artists… It really is quite different to any other festivals that people will have gone to. Go to Hackney WickED for a real artist festival! – Gavin Turk – Hackney WickED Patron

A snapshot of the many activities includes offering visitors the rare opportunity to view studios of over 150 of London’s leading contemporary artists from SPACE Studios, Stour Space, Mother X and more; Hackney Wick Group Show in partnership with Gavin Turk, opportunity to view Studio Wayne McGregor in rehearsal; Hackney Wick Floating Museum of narrow boats exhibiting sculpture; open workshops at the London Centre for Book Arts; Hackney Wick life drawing classes, #SaveHackneyWick’s ‘Dis’place’ themed panel talks & performances, Gay Photographers Network Annual Exhibition at Arebyte Gallery, Artigon’s Emerge Exhibition at Stour Space, The Yard & Hub 67 Community Celebration with creative activities for all ages, Live Art Development Agency’ ‘Leaving Party’ & more

The weekend kicks-off on Friday from 6 pm with the official Private View of the Hackney WickED Group Show at Here East, co-curated by HW’ED Patron Gavin Turk, HW’ED Director Anna Maloney & friends. RSVP HERE
The intention is to showcase Hackney Wick’s diverse range of artists and talents and explore the inside workings of the artist studio, outside of its natural habitat of warehouses and yards. It may also be a representation of inner emotions, ideas, shadows and trauma expressed outwardly and publicly at a time of great change in and around Hackney Wick.
Although this is a vulnerable time for the community, Hackney WickED aims to create a union, a ‘bridge’ between the existing creative community and the new comers to the area within the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, forging positive new relationships and opportunities for artists to be supported, acknowledged and continue to thrive in the changing landscape, and not become extinct.
