National Open Art has announced the artists short-listed for awards in the National Open Art Exhibition 2013: Now in its 17th year, National Open Art is an annual open competition, sponsored by Towry the Wealth Adviser, which nurtures creative talent from both emerging and professional artists. This year for the first time the exhibition will show at The Royal College of Art, London.
The highest ever number of entries were submitted this year, from across the UK, for consideration by the distinguished panel of judges: Brian Sewell, Art Writer and Critic for London’s Evening Standard; Barbara Rae CBE RA RE, Scottish contemporary painter; Michael Hoppen, Gallerist; James Green, Stephen Friedman Gallery; and David Middleton of Towry.
The judging panel have selected nearly 100 works (93 works by 85 artists) for an exhibition opening at The Royal College of Art, London (25 October – 7 November 2013), followed by The Minerva Theatre, Chichester (14 – 30 November 2013), with the winners being displayed at Pallant House Gallery, Chichester (3 – 15 December 2013).
Prizes totalling an impressive £55,000 will be announced at a private awards ceremony on 24 October 2013. The event will be opened by, Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones, who is also a keen painter.
The Prizes, many of which are new for the 2013 competition, include: the Towry Award for Best in Show of £10,000; two Photography Prizes, supported by Prudential (£10,000) and Crown Fine Art (£3,000); the Young Artists’ Prizes totaling £5,000, awarded to artists under 21 years of age and generously sponsored by Piran Strange; and up to nine Regional Prizes will also be awarded.
