New Installation By Tom Gibson and Ian Giles To Be Unveiled

Landed, a site-specific installation by Tom Gibson and Ian Giles, funded by the West Euston Community Arts Fund is an exciting new sculpture for St James’ Gardens near Euston Station. The unveiling of the sculpture takes place at 2pm on Saturday 13th April, followed by a series of other events which will also run throughout April, May and June.

Landed sits within a circle of trees in the park and can be used as a site for playful activity, or simply as a place to sit and rest. Its three tumbling concrete forms are designed to encourage interaction. Landed has been choreographed within the landscape to suggest a sense of movement, its forms hinting at objects tumbling through a space, changing as they move. These rock-like structures could be seen as chunks of fallen meteorite or perhaps even as the remainder of a larger monument that has since been destroyed.

Speaking about their intentions for the work, Tom Gibson and Ian Giles commented that they “are interested in how people act and interact with the sculptures. For us this is when they become alive. They are objects to be explored in the way that one might hold a pebble in your hand and think about its history, how it has changed over time.”
