PAD London Moet Hennessy Design Prize Announced

PAD London

“It is about making rather than manufacturing, uniqueness rather than availability.” – Nigel Coates

The 6th edition of PAD London marks the launch of a prestigious new Moët Hennessy-PAD London Design Prize. The £15,000 Prize, sponsored by Moët Hennessy and its President, Mr. Christophe Navarre, will be presented to a young designer whose work will be selected by an expert panel for its exceptional creative qualities, the innovative use of materials, and its ability to reflect the artistic intent of design.

Set in the heart of Mayfair, PAD is London’s leading fair for 20th Century art, design and decorative arts. Inspiring a unique spirit of collecting, PAD epitomizes how modern art, photography, design, decorative and tribal arts interact to reveal astonishing combinations and create the most individual and staggering interiors.

British architect and designer Nigel Coates, President of the Jury, comments: ‘this prestigious Prize brings together the incredible talent that designers in this country have to offer and the aspiration of PAD London to promote that talent. While the UK has some of the best and most competitive art and design colleges, we don’t always have the industry to match it.’ PAD London provides a unique platform for the selected designers to introduce their work to a refined and international audience, encouraging new generations to add to the collectible tradition of design. The Prize will be an opportunity for those designers to connect with today’s market as well as the key dealers who foster the future of these talents.

The Prize will be annual and open to UK-based designers from all nationalities and under 35 years of age. A shortlist of five designers will be nominated by an expert committee composed of design curators Jane Withers and Claire Catterall, together with Nigel Coates on behalf of the Jury. Each designer will be invited to exhibit a piece which is representative of their work from the previous year. All five works will be showcased at the fair in preparation for the Jury’s final selection on Monday 8th October. The winning piece will be displayed at PAD in the fair’s foyer. The Prize will run alongside the annual Awards for ‘Best Stand’ and ‘Best Object’.

The Moët Hennessy-PAD London Jury sits under the Honorary Presidency of Zaha Hadid and Presidency of Nigel Coates. It is composed of luminaries from the worlds of design, art, fashion, business and communication and includes Jasper Conran, Allegra Hicks, and Tom Dixon amongst others.
