Susan Philipsz who recently won the 2010 Turner Prize, is installing one of her sublime sound installations in Chicago. “We Shall Be All” has been commissioned by The Internationale at the MCA (Museum of Contemporary Art), Chicago. The instillation will run from February 26 to June 5, 2011. Philipsz’s sound works echo literature, history and music. They work as integrated sound sculpture complementing their sites. The exhibition will utilize strategically placed audio speakers to project her voice singing. The Internationale (1999) will appear in the atrium, and We Shall Be All will take up the fourth-floor galleries of the museum.
Susan Philipsz currently lives and works in Berlin. She was comissioned to do a major project with the London-based public art institution Artangel in October 2010.This led to her nomination for the prestigious Turner Prize. Her work has been included in Skulptur Projekte Munster in 2007 and at the 2008 Carnegie International. She has recently created solo projects for the Wexner Center for the Arts in Columbus; Creative Time in New York City, and the Silo Monastery in Burgos, Spain which was commissioned by the Reina Sofia in Madrid.
