The Absinthe Drinkers – by Mark Mushet for VR Magazine

“Once upon a time , portraits of boho absinthe drinkers were common, with the most famous by Desgas and Picasso. Now that BC liquor stores stock the notorious intoxicant, Holly Armishaw has contemporized the medium and the setting. As part of her ongoing La Femme Tragique photo project, which consists of “romanticized psychological autobiographical self-portraits,” she chose the former opium den that’s now the lounge of downtown Vancouver’s Lucy Mae Brown restaurant to pay homage to hipsters drowning themselves in notions of romantic dissolution.”

-Mark Mushet for Vancouver Review, Issue #22, “Art Notes” page 4.
