The First Ever Winter Pride UK Art Awards Shortlist Announced

The first ever ‘Winter Pride’ UK Art Awards , which launches at London’s Tobacco Dock on 8th February 2014, will feature a new art competition – the Winter Pride “UK” Art Awards.

The Winter Pride Art Awards is a new arts competition for emerging and established artists, with the aim of promoting innovative artworks created for exhibition at a vast, vaulted, Victorian warehouse space.
Open to all artists with an inventive spirit, the winners will be announced at an exhibition of the finalists’ artworks at the Winter Pride Awards on Saturday 8 February 2014 at the Tobacco Docks Victorian Vaults, 50 Porters Walk, London E1W 2SF.

Showcasing a spectrum of artistic practice, 21 Finalists have been selected by a judging panel of arts and media professionals. Winter Pride Art Awards Judge, Frances Segelman said: “The Winter Pride “UK” Art Awards represents an important opportunity for emerging artists to showcase their artworks”.

A preview exhibition of the shortlisted Finalists will take place at CHART gallery in Chelsea from 3-5 February 2014, followed by a display at Tobacco Dock in East London on the 8th of February, when the winner and runners up will be announced.

Stephen Fry, who has been nominated as the Winter Pride LGBT Luminary of the Year, said: “Artistic and cultural events of this kind are so important for the well being of the LGBT community”. Created for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) community, and made possible with sponsorship from Smirnoff, Winter Pride UK also demonstrates a commitment to the wider LGBT community, with fundraising campaigns for the Terrence Higgins Trust and Stonewall at its heart.

The Art Awards judging panel consists of the following art experts: • Frances Segelman – Sculptress to HM The Queen • Helena Zedig – Deputy Head of Press, Southbank Centre • Clive Jennings – Director of The National Print Gallery and Director of CHART gallery • Sam Walker – Artist, Curator and Director of CHART gallery • Simon Tarrant – Artist, Curator and Director of Winter Pride Art Awards

The shortlisted finalists will have the opportunity to exhibit and sell their artworks at CHART Gallery, which will include a press/photo call and a Private View. All

finalists will have the opportunity to exhibit and sell their artworks at Winter Pride UK 2014 whilst supporting a selected charity.
