The Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair 2014 which takes place today (Sunday 8 June) is the UK’s most disruptive and exciting art fair. It takes place in London once a year with a range of A-Lister artists including Sir Peter Blake, Gavin Turk, Tracey Emin & Emin International, Bob & Roberta Smith, Polly Morgan, Mat Collishaw, Keith Coventry & Turps Banana, Pure Evil, Pam Hogg, and Daniel Chadwick.
The fair returns to Brick Lane on 8th June and then will for the first time take the show on the road this summer. Already confirmed are events in Liverpool on 5th July as part of the opening weekend of the Liverpool Biennial, and in Folkestone on 30th August as part of the opening weekend of the Folkestone Triennial. By linking up with these international arts extravaganzas the Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair will be adding new and exciting artists and performers to the mix of its established reputation for presenting a stellar line-up of artists, frivolity, fabulous entertainment, artisan food and high end art bargains.
The Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair 2014 is gearing up to be a series of unmissable events and to mark this is the launch of the Vauxhall Art Cargo – a specially customised Vauxhall Vivaro van packed full of art and the stuff to make it at each venue – so that visitors can get properly stuck in to the process as well as the purchase of art! Plus the Go Forth Plinth will feature a series of commissions by artists, creating special artworks to be shown aloft the roof-racks of a fleet of Vauxhall cars. Each roof top installation will have associated editions for bargain art hunters to get their hands on.
Speaking about the upcoming event, Denis Chick, Director of Communications at Vauxhall Motors said, “We were keen to develop the event for 2014 and by taking the Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair onto the road, even more art, entertainment, fun and British madness can roam the country. The Art Cargo and the Go Forth Plinth – a fleet of Vauxhall cars with incredible artworks – will hit Bristol, Folkestone and Liverpool. It remains a fabulous day out and there will be some exciting announcements in terms of artists over the next couple of months.”
As always, the Fair will feature renowned and up and coming artists who personally pitch up to sell their original and limited edition works of art out of the back of new and vintage Vauxhall Motors, at very special prices. Taking a quintessentially British concept and turning it on its head, the Fair is famous for being the day the art world lets its hair down, coming together to fill the car park with English eccentricity, quirky ideas, incredible bargains, cool art, eclectic wares and madcap performances.
It’s an art-buying frenzy from the moment the doors open to the thousand plus queue, for the chance to grab the special just-for-the-day artworks. There’s something for every pocket with works typically on sale for between £10 to £1,000.
Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair founder and curator, Karen Ashton, commented, “Having established the Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair as a dynamic and thrilling art marketplace as well as a thoroughly entertaining afternoon for all our art loving visitors in London, it made perfect sense to take our show on the road to engage with new audiences and new artists around the country – and we are delighted to be embraced by both the Liverpool Biennial and the Folkestone Triennial. Watch this space for new tour dates.”
