Details and images were displayed on the artinliverpool.com website for the public and fellow artists to view, comment upon and give ratings. A panel of judges then selected a short-list of 6.

Announcement for the Accessibility Planning and Resource Guide
http://www.nea.gov/resour.../Accessibility/Planning/index.h
Announcement for the Accessibility Planning and Resource Guide deadline 1/1/2011 The National Arts and Disability Center (NADC) would like to inform you about a new online document entitled, Accessibility Planning and Resource Guide for Cultural Administrators. The National Arts and Disability Center at the University of California Los Angeles under contract and in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, and the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies produced this online companion to the printed text Design for Accessibility: A Cultural Administrator's Handbook (2003). The Guide provides guidance to cultural administrators on how to achieve accessible and inclusive programming for everyone including individuals with disabilities and older adults. It is designed to help your organization not only comply with Section 504 and the Americans with Disabilities Act but also to assist in making access an integral part of your organization, including its staffing, mission, budget, education, meetings, programs and beyond. The Guide outlines a step-by-step 'nuts and bolts' process for achieving accessible practices by setting the standard and illustrating how cultural organizations can make it happen. It features examples of 'best practices' that illustrate specific methods for opening existing programs, services, facilities, and activities to individuals with disabilities and older adults, as artists, arts administrators, board members, volunteers, teachers, students and audience members. This online text takes advantage of Internet technology by presenting and linking to a wide variety of resources that assist cultural organizations. It is also provides necessary information to enable arts and humanities service organizations to assist their grantees/constituents in achieving accessible programming. The Accessibility Planning and Resource Guide for Cultural Administrators is available in Portable Document Format (PDF).

Antarctic Artists and Writers Program
http://www.us-ipy.gov.
The purpose of the Antarctic Artists and Writers Program is to enable serious writings and works of art that exemplify the Antarctic heritage of humankind. In particular, the program seeks to increase public understanding of the Antarctic region, including the continent and the surrounding oceans, as well as the associated research and education endeavors. The Antarctic Artists and Writers Program provides opportunities for professional artists and writers to travel to Antarctica --- at research stations, field camps, and aboard ships --- to make the observations necessary to complete their proposed projects. While the majority of award recipients are established artists and writers, the program also seeks to support early career artists and writers in an effort to broaden participation. The National Science Foundation funds and manages the U.S. Antarctic Program, which is devoted mainly to scientific research and education in support of the national interest in the Antarctic. The program’s research and support infrastructure enables access to much of the Antarctic region for selected Antarctic Artists and Writers Program projects. It does not typically provide direct financial support to selected applicants. International Polar Year A concerted worldwide effort is underway to plan scientific and educational activities for the upcoming International Polar Year (IPY). Scheduled to officially begin in March 2007, IPY promises to advance our understanding of how the Earth's remote polar regions impact global climate systems, to bring about fundamental advances in many areas of science, and to fire the enthusiasm of young men and women for future careers in science and engineering. The Foundation has placed special emphasis on IPY in recent proposal solicitations and expects to support a wide array of IPY projects. This international event represents a significant opportunity for artists and writers to convey the importance of the polar regions to the world. The submission of IPY-related Antarctic Artists and Writers program proposals are strongly encouraged.

http://www.azarts.gov/localarts/index.htm#

Students develop a new sense of community as they learn and experience the significance of family, community, and cultural traditions directly from parents and family members, employers and workers, senior citizens, public officials, and other community members. Residency lengths are variable and are built around a combination of services: training for students and teachers in research methodology; fieldwork conducted by the folklorist with participating students and teachers; classroom workshops; lecture-demonstrations on traditional art forms; interviews with local traditional artists; and presentation of traditional artists/art forms in school or community settings. A travel, lodging, and meals subsidy is provided for artists funded for out-of-town residencies and is in addition to their payment for services.

Art for Darfur
http://www.tlightfo@smu.edu
As a result of the 5-year armed conflict in Darfur, over 2.5 million Sudanese citizens have been displaced from their homes; fleeing to neighboring Chad, other villages in Darfur or most commonly to refugee camps. These chaotic and over-crowded environments lead to rapidly-spreading diseases and shortages of food and water. We ask that you join us in the movement to save the lives of our fellow humans. International pressure and internal resolutions bring slow change to the political instability of Sudan, while the suffering of refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) are ignored or neglected. Refugees and IDPs desperately need clean water, food and adequate medical attention. Art for Darfur is a collective of students and non-profit organizations who strive to connect American citizens to the people of Darfur through the power of artist expression. The event will take place on Saturday, April 12, 2008 from 7-9 p.m. inside the Taubman Atrium at the Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Art for Darfur will be an evening of a silent auction, food, music and speakers. Art for Human Rights has chosen the International Rescue Committee (IRC) as the beneficiary of Art for Darfur. One-hundred percent of all money raised from the evening will go directly to the IRC’s work in Darfur and Eastern Chad providing clean-water wells and medical supplies. All donations to the IRC are tax-deductible. Art for Darfur cannot exist without the support of socially and globally conscious artists. We are accepting art of any size, medium and theme. Your donation will bring hope to the lives of many suffering Darfurians. We ask that you would donate your artistic expression by Monday, March 31 2008. Please contact me at tlightfo@smu.edu or 214-235-5351. You are encouraged to include advertising with your piece at the auction and in gratitude you will be recognized as a contributing artist at the event. We must remember that after the genocide of the Holocaust the world repeated, “Never again.” It is time we put meaning and action to these words!
