How To Get An Arts Grant Funding For Artists Grants Q to S
Q - S Arts Grant Funding
Quarterly Assistance
http://www.florida-arts.org/grants/qa/index.htm
Promotes professional development and growth for arts organizations by offering small grants for organizations that are new to the grant making process; it also provides assistance for organizations that have “sudden opportunities,” or that wish to take advantage of professional development opportunities.
http://www.florida-arts.org/grants/qa/
The Quarterly Assistance Program has four main goals in funding: to act as an introductory grant program for new organizations or organizations with no prior Division grant experience; to capture “sudden opportunities” for projects of arts organizations (that is, opportunities that were not anticipated or known in time for other grant program application deadlines); to promote professional development for arts organizations within the Consultant, In-Service Training, or Staff Exchange categories; to provide a place for small Division-initiated projects or to provide organizations with a larger funding request for special projects that are broader in scope than what is offered by the mini-grant. Arts organizations are eligible for funding in all five grant subcategories; non-arts organizations are eligible for funding in only the Special Project category. Quarterly Assistance funding is not intended to supplement general program support.

(To be awarded Spring 2009) 1st - $10,000 Cash 2nd - $5,000 Cash 3rd - $2,500 Cash 4 - 12 - $1,000 Cash Current Contest - February 2008 Judge: Kevin Macpherson Kevin Macpherson one of the country’s leading plein air painters, is highly respected among collectors and fellow artists alike. Past President of the Plein Air Painters of America, Kevin is a popular instructor throughout the country and abroad. His painting workshops are highly attended, often selling out years in advance. Now in its ninth printing, Macpherson’s painting instruction book, Fill Your Oil Paintings with Light and Color, has been translated into the Chinese language and has quickly become a best-seller for publisher North Light Books. Kevin's clear, concise teaching method has inspired and directed thousands of plein air painters. Born in 1956, this artist’s work is nationally recognized and collected, having attracted the attention of major art collectors, including Roy Rose, the grand-nephew of acclaimed California plein air painter Guy Rose. Kevin has won numerous national awards, including so many in national Oil Painters of America competitions that he is the first artist in the organization to be elevated from Signature Member status to that of Master Signature Member. Kevin excels in his ability to paint all subject matter: landscape, still life, and figurative works. Using spontaneous brushwork and candid color, Kevin’s work reveals his interpretive and creative virtuosity. He easily manipulates the elements of an artist’s 'visual toolbox' to capture the mood of his subject, whether it be the dramatic light of southern France, the rugged beauty of the California coast, or the brilliance of dappled light through a floral still life. Kevin’s work has been featured in many national magazines, Art of the West, Art Talk, U. S. Art, Wildlife Art and gracing the covers of Southwest Art, American Artist, International Artist, and The Artist’s Magazine. Contibuting editor to Southwest Art Magazine, author of 'The Artist’s Voice, 2000'. In addition to numerous gallery exhibitions, he has shown at the Gilcrease Museum, the Arizona State Capital and the Albuquerque Museum. Kevin now makes his home in the mountains of Taos, New Mexico, merging his influences from years in Arizona with his childhood memories of New Jersey. Bitten with wanderlust, Kevin and his wife Wanda can be seen anywhere in the world painting en plein air.

Please visit our residency page www.pollitalu.org/english/residencies/res.english.html directly for conditions and application procedures. Polli Talu (literally, 'Polly's Farm') is a traditional Estonian farm complex situated near the Baltic Sea, 150 km southwest of the capital city Tallinn, not far from the port town of Virtsu. It consists of five log buildings with thatched roofs made from locally-harvested reeds. The structures date back to the beginning of the 20th century. Marika Blossfeldt, an Estonian who had left her native country as a very young child to live in Germany and, later, New York City, welcomed the opportunity to purchase Polli's Farm in 1995. Residencies for Artists, Writers, and Cultural Producers
http://www.elsewhereelsewhere.org/residencies.html
Elsewhere, an arts production site and experimental museum in downtown Greensboro, NC, is seeking artists, writers, and cultural producers for residencies during its Spring, Summer, and Fall seasons. Set within a former thrift store housing a 58-year collection of American surplus, thrift, and antiques, Elsewhere invites experimental creators to utilize the immense collection of objects to pursue site-specific material, conceptual, and/or technologically-based projects. Elsewhere's building—two storefronts on the ground floor, a 14-room boarding house on the second, and warehouse on the third—provides dynamic architectures for the creation and installation of works. Artists live and work within transforming installations; these interactive environments become platforms for re-conceptualizing the theory and practice of art-making as an ongoing process of exchange in community. Experimenting with museum-as-medium within a store where nothing is for sale, Elsewhere offers an unparalleled framework for art practices, processes, and productions outside the traditional gallery, museum, and residency systems. The complete call for artists, residency brochure (PDF), and application deadlines are available at www.elsewhereelsewhere.org/residencies.html. Email George Scheer, Collaborative Director, at residencies@elsewhereelsewhere.org for an application. Elsewhere Artist Collaborative, 606 South Elm Street, Greensboro, NC 27406. www.elsewhereelsewhere.org. We review applications at the end of each month. The residency season runs from April through October.

To recognize and support artists of many varying mediums, Scholarships.com has created a new art scholarship. SCULPTURE PERMUTATIONS
http://WWW.SCULPTURE-PERMUTATIONS.COM
Deadline 01.03.2009 The interactive sculpture project “Sculpture-Permutations” invites figurative and abstract sculptors .This no-profit and self-financed project is based on contact and collaboration between artists of various countries. The goal of the project is to create a sculpture that is combinable with other sculptures. This sculpture is made of three parts which can be taken apart and recombined to the three parts of other sculptures. This will create another sculpture. Different combinations can be achieved through the congruence of each part with its counter part. The permutation process is a creative process and at the same time a logical one. Each artist, without the possibility to control the piece of art, makes his contribution and participates to this experiment. The result can not be predicted, and is simply the sum of many elements. The main idea of this work is to share, so we are inviting sculptors that are interested in this project to participate. The website WWW.SCULPTURE-PERMUTATIONS.COM will become the studio and the showcase of the project. The results of the initiators’ first edition of the Permutation-Project are visible on the same website.

Seeking Major Sponsor for Communal Artspace
http://www.jstraight.org
AMEN, Association to Empower the Needy, is seeking a major sponsor for its Communal Artspace; there are so many talented artists in Jerusalem in whom Art's Fire burns unseen by those who should but won't welcome them in a space wherein to materialize their vision. AMEN's center will GW provide, besides space, art materials, tools and even food and wine for those artists who can't come up with their own, then promote the results and help them reach freedom from want, a prerequisite for excellence. To do this it takes money, and I, as a social artist, activist and entrepreneur have not yet found a common language with foundations and the like, so I am looking for, besides the aforementioned sponsor(s), someone capable of bridging the gap, in exchange for substantial negotiable benefits and the satisfaction to have prevented up to a hundred potential suicides, divorces or plunges into mental disease, a hazard common in Art's so many marginalized by poverty but unable to give it up for a MacJob children (no age limit!). Please google my name &/or 'pizzarebbe', try some of the links below, especially the Picnic video, then connect with me if you are willing to earn a share in this plan which will eventually deliver amazing financial returns to, and unestimable benefits to society at large. Shelley and Donald Rubin Foundation Grants
http://www.sdrubin.org/guidelines.htm
The foundation's mission is to support innovative efforts to transform society's institutions and to empower individuals to develop their full potential. The foundation is primarily interested in supporting the inclusion of art from non-Western European cultures into the mainstream of scholarship and display. In addition, the foundation supports research, action, and other projects designed to reveal and understand barriers to the full access of all people to American society and the larger international community. Areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to: access to health care; AIDS and its effects on society's institutions; the celebration of ethnic and cultural diversity that simultaneously encourages intergroup understanding; and cultural and arts programs that encourage individual and community identity. Projects in other areas that are most often funded are those that in themselves serve as catalysts for social change, addressing emerging problems as well as better known, long-standing problems in new ways. On a limited basis, programs eligible for funding may also include evaluation, technical assistance, and demonstration projects leading to the development of innovative models. Some examples of technical assistance of interest are the establishment of Web sites, the development of Web/TV productions, and related outreach activities.

SHOPDROPPING.NET presents GREETINGS
http://www.shopdropping.net
SHOPDROPPING.NET is now calling on artists, designers, media makers, and creative folks to purchase or 'regift' greeting cards and alter them in any way they see fit in order to create a new and unique card. Any form of commercial card, from wedding to graduation to birthday to bereavement, is eligible. But clever and witty will be given preference over easy and distasteful. Please submit JPEG reproductions of the altered greeting cards to: submissions@shopdropping.net with GREETINGS as the subject line. All files must be sized to 1024 x 768 at 72 dpi. Each altered card must include the text 'www.shopdropping.net' somewhere in the new design. It can be discreet, on the back of the card, and unobtrusive but it must be present. When submitting the cover and inside of the same card please indicate this clearly in the file titles (for example 'cover.jpg', 'page2.jpg'). The deadline for submissions is April 1st 2008. Once all of the digital reproductions have been submitted, selected artists will be given the address of a fellow participant to swap cards with. The cards will then be shopdropped back into circulation and the digital reproductions will be featured on SHOPDROPPING.NET. Please do not submit digital files if you do not intend to follow through with the act of shopdropping a fellow participant's work. The digital reproductions are a means to select and document the artworks, but do not replace the act of shopdropping the originals into unsuspecting stores.

Sound As Sculpture, Call for Entry
http://www.rootdivision.org/030808.html
Call for Entry at Root Division, S.F. Deadline: January 5, 2008 The curators are interested in showcasing original devices, processes, and appropriations used for making sound. We are soliciting submissions from various fields: music, visual art, performance and computing. We will select pieces in terms of their sculptural and conceptual qualities rather than musical viability. We are interested primarily in mechanical or material solutions whose formal qualities emerge from their sound making intention. The sculpture doesn't necessarily need to produce a sound but it should be implied that the object might once have or could produce a sound. Questions of interest: Can sound be implied in a sculptural object? What are the conceptual components used to make a sound? How do the sculptural qualities emerge from the sound function? Is the sound present or absent? Is it precise, imprecise, or failed? Is a specialist needed to use the device? Does the viewer complete the sound object? Can the public choose when and for how long to participate? Is there poetic or sometimes destructive residue to mark the memory of a sound? Does the device bridge different disciplines in interesting ways? Deadline: January 5, Notification: January 15, Exhibition: March Please submit the following in the body of an email: - 3-5 jpgs no larger than 800px - URL for additional media (sound or video) - A brief description of the work - A current bio or resumé Please do not attach text documents or media over 1MB. You may submit completed work or proposal drawings along with exemplary recent work. Surdna Foundation Grants
http://www.surdna.org
The foundation makes grants in five program areas: the environment, community revitalization, effective citizenry, the arts, and nonprofit-sector support. The environmental program emphasizes projects in four areas: biological diversity and the human communities that depend on it, human systems, transportation and urban/suburban land use, and energy. The citizenry program focuses on dispute resolution and mediation programs, youth development, encouraging community participation, and helping people work together to solve serious social and civic problems. Grants in the community revitalization field focus on access to low-cost housing, helping low-income people become more self-sufficient, and strengthening families and early-childhood education. Funding in the arts focuses on education grants to support general curriculum and professional development tailored to assist students ages 11 through 18. Nonprofit-sector grants concentrate on strengthening the sector's role in American public life and in public-policy creation; promoting the study of overlapping issues such as tax exemption and public funding; galvanizing philanthropic activity; and enhancing nonprofits' management, finance, leadership, and use of technology. The foundation makes both project and general support grants. The foundation recommends potential applicants to submit a letter of inquiry before submitting proposals. Grants are approved in February, May, and September.
