Mixing the memories, as I mix the ink with the medium,
these artworks pop up on my drawing table.
A new exhibition of Cyntia Cerrato’s watercolours will be on
display at 13 The Gallery from 21st
November to 6th
December, where her work will be available in limited
edition prints on canvas. The artist creates surrealist, dream
like landscapes that deal with themes of nostalgia,
childhood memory and madness. Bright splashes of colour
point to her Spanish heritage but also the edge of memory,
where forms and subjects can be seen to take shape.
Based on the poem by Constantine P. Cavafi with the same
name, and drawing on inspiration from her European
travels, this series of artworks offer fresh interpretations of
tourist destinations by enthusing them with a sense of ennui
and personal encounter.
Ithaca is about feelings and memories, nonetheless
do not get nostalgic because colours will add the
happiness with which old memories should be
brought back to the present
