Deptford X launch with SLAM Friday

This September, Deptford X, the arts festival born of Deptford’s creative community, will launch in conjunction with the South London Art Map: SLAM Friday on 27th September 2013.

The South London Art Map is a user-friendly guide to galleries in south London running tours and hosting late night openings of galleries in each hub: Bermondsey, Bankside, Deptford or Peckham, on the last Friday of every month.

Deptford X has attracted over one million visitors since 1988, and has seen some of the greatest artists from around the globe working together with the unique pool of creative talent in Deptford and south east London.

This year Deptford X is proud to announce that Bob & Roberta Smith is the Lead Artist, issuing the rallying cry: ART MAKES PEOPLE POWERFUL! “Creativity feeds off restriction. Even in times of austerity, art is the voice of the people to persuade, to protest, to empower. Weare all in this together – Art makes people powerful!.”

Highlights of the festival include new work by Bob & Roberta Smith, in addition to work by Associate Artists Dan Holliday and Bernadette Russell.  Deptford X will present two group exhibitions and showcase an extensive Fringe programme throughout festival.  It will also launch a unique, large-scale event with a cast in excess of 100 collaborators.

From 6.30–8.30pm on Friday 27th of September, SLAM Friday will run tours of Deptford X, exploring the late night opening of galleries and studios; a great night to catch private views, events, talks and performances. All events will be opening at 6.30pm running until 8.30pm, with the official after party taking place at Enclave (http://enclaveprojects.com/).
