Marcus Hodge: Gateways

Marcus Hodge Rountree Tryon

The new exhibition of bold paintings and sculptures by Marcus Hodge traces the arstist’s deep connection with India while also marking a complete transformation in style. This work, which is steeped in symbolism, explores the choices we all make in life: the pivotal moments which open or close doors for our futures, whether as individuals, families or nations.

Gateways has allowed Hodge a more visceral approach to his work, giving the materials greater expression once unencumbered by representation.  Stripped back, Hodge almost forgoes the paintbrush and instead uses spatulas, knives and lengths of wood in his work, introducing the elements of risk, chance and opportunity.
