Paint Out Norwich Gala Preview, Auction, and Awards

October 19 – 23, 2015 will welcome up to 50 selected artists working in a variety of mediums en plein air amid Norwich’s vibrant cityscape during a timed competition.

An expanded and dynamic Paint Out Norwich is planned following the success of last year’s inaugural event. The artists will be stationed at city venues such as Norwich Castle, Norwich Cathedral, Bishop Bridge, The Lanes, Tombland, Norwich Market, the Forum and other favourite sites in Norwich.

“I have never seen people paint as a competitive sport before … it was astonishing to witness in the city,” said Amanda Geitner, Chief Curator for the Sainsbury Centre for the Visual Arts and 2014 Paint Out Norwich Judge. “What really amazed us was that this brought together … pressure of time limit, pressure of light, pressure of constantly interacting with a public to a deadline.”

The October 23rd ticketed preview gala, awards ceremony, and auction will showcase the artwork produced during the competition. The 2015 competition will be judged by eminent panel to be further announced. The 2014 judges panel was comprised of Amanda Guitner, Chief Curator at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, Artist Trevor Chamberlain ROI, RSMA, former Sunday Telegraph art critic, and celebrated pop artist Colin Self.  Leading regional auctioneers TW Gaze of Diss will be conducting an auction of special selected competition work. Last year’s auction was attended by 200 people with excellent sales results.
