EXHIBITION: 18-22 MARCH
PRIVATE VIEW: 20 MARCH, 6-8PM
The Lumen Prize Exhibition, a UK-based award and exhibition for digitally created art, will be opening at The Triangle Space, Chelsea College of Arts, London on 18th March 2014. Now in its third year, Lumen celebrates this exciting genre of art through an annual competition and global tour of the works selected by the eminent Lumen Prize panel of judges, including Chelsea College of Art’s Dean, George Blacklock. For the 2013/14 competition, Lumen received nearly 700 works from 45 different countries, including UK, USA, Norway, Oman, Serbia, India, Zimbabwe, Indonesia, Japan, Canada and Costa Rica.
The 50 winning works, including interactive works using an x-box Kinect, animations, photomontages, app-art, digitally-created sculpture, creative coding, generative work and more – will be featured in the exhibition, along with the five Lumen Prize awarded works, which shared a total prize fund of $5250.
“It’s amazing to see the range of work that artists are producing with new technology,” says Lumen Prize Exhibition CEO, Carla Rapoport. “Of course, digitally-created art has been around as long as the technology itself, but the sheer accessibility artists have to new technologies is unprecedented. As art schools are starting to embrace new media art more and more, we will continue to have generations of art graduates increasingly more comfortable with making this kind of art”
Indeed, the curation and exhibition design is done in collaboration with students from Camberwell College of Arts MA Fine Art Digital programme and their tutor, Jonathan Kearney.
In partnership with Chelsea School of Arts, we are also holding a free half day symposium on digital art. Click for further details:
