In response to growing concerns relating to the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), we have had to postpone the prize-giving event for the Artlyst Art To Poetry competition, in association with The Poetry Society. The event was set to take place on 13 May 2020 at Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac, in Mayfair. Judging is ongoing and the shortlist will be announced as soon as possible, however, the winners will not be revealed until the event in September. I am so sorry to be the bearer of bad news as we have all worked so hard to create this event.

Artlyst in association with The Poetry Society launched this new international award for poetry based on works of art for the first time in December. The judges are busy sifting through over 1500 entries and all will be revealed on 13 May when the envelope will be opened to unveil this year’s winners.

The awards are made possible by Artlyst and Frances Segelman (Lady Petchey) in association with The Poetry Society

From ancient times poets have been inspired by art. Ekphrastic poetry has given us some of the most celebrated poems in the English language from Keats’ ‘Ode on a Grecian Urn’, to W.H. Auden’s ‘Musée des Beaux-Arts’, based on Brueghel’s famous painting of Icarus falling from the sky. In each case, what has been created is not a mere description but a fresh insight, a new world, an autonomous work of art.
