Amy Winehouse Anniversary Portrait Unveiled At Camden Tube

It is one year on from the tragic death of Amy Winehouse. To celebrate her life, Art Below have created a special tribute billboard poster, in homage to the late singer. It is painted by the acclaimed artist Johan Andersson, at Camden Town tube station and located on Northern Line Platform 1.

The poster is due to go up between the 9th and 12th July for 2 weeks. The portrait poster of Amy Winehouse was unveiled for the first time last year just two weeks after she passed away and It has already reached cult status. Overnight the portrait became iconic, capturing the attention of media from all over the world. Also exhibiting this July in Art Below’s build up show to the Olympics is Eine whograffiti seen through his symbiotic partnership with London graffiti artist Banksy. Other artists who have exhibited with Art Below include Banksy, Goldie, George Samurez Smith and the notorious criminal Charles Bronson.

Winehouse,The ‘Back to Black’ star was best known as a singer-songwriter,with powerful contralto vocals and an eclectic mix of various musical genres including R&B, soul, and jazz. She received blanket tabloid publicity over her substance abuse and mental health issues. Amy had completed her third album but the release date was delayed by Island Records when she went into rehab. She died At 27 of alcohol poisoning in July 2011. Winehouse joined a long line of important 20/21 century musicians to die at this age including, Kurt Cobain who killed himself in 1994, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Brian Jones to name a few. This current work of poster art will act as a focal point for members of the public wanting to pay their respect to this talented and much loved singer.
