Art Car Boot Fair A Collectors Dream Come True

Where else can you buy an original Damien Hirst for £300 or a Tracey Emin at a knock down price?

The Art Car Boot Fair was an idea that grew out of previous events such as Joshua Compston’s ‘Fete Worse than Death’ and Gavin Turk’s ‘Livestock Market’ and Articultural Shows’ that blazed a trail in the 90’s. A desire to re-introduce some summer fun and frivolity into a thriving but increasingly commercial London art scene. We aim for the Art Car Boot Fair to be a day when the artists let their hair down and for all-comers to engage with art in a totally informal way, and to pick up some real art bargains to boot!

Participation in the Art Car Boot Fair is by invitation and referral by existing ‘booters’ only. The Art Car Boot Fair is an original event concept devised by Karen Ashton and developed since its inception in London in 2004 through invaluable collaborations with Helen Hayward and Vanessa Fristedt. Ashton Hayward produces energised art related events that encourage direct interface between artists and their audiences in a playful and amusing fashion.

This year the Art Car Boot Fair continues on from Brick Lane car park and heads to the leafy expanse of Victoria Park creating a ‘fete within a festival’.

As well as being able to pick up an astonishing selection of exciting art works and art wares from the boots of classic cars, Apple Carters will also be able to get involved in all manner of artist led frivolities, create their own art, become a human snowshaker, play Boules in a Chinashop, find out what the future may bring from My Big Fat Gypsy Fortune Teller and have a singalong with the fabulous and famed Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club Karaoke set. Something for everyone of all ages guaranteed.
