Banksy Dismaland A Real-life Sculpture Park For The Dispossessed

An ominous artist’s impression of the 21st century is depicted in a theme park created by the prophetic street artist Banksy, in Weston Super Mare. Its centerpiece is a fire-ravaged Disney-like castle with payday lender stalls and a remote controled boat game which highlights the plight of immigrants. The show on the pier features a Jimmy Savile Punch and Judy show, scripted by the journalist Julie Burchill.

Nigel Ashton, leader of North Somerset Council, said: “We have been working closely with the organisers for months now, and for obvious reasons, have had to remain tight-lipped about the true nature of the event. “In fact, only four people in the entire council knew what was really happening.”

Banksy said; I loved the Tropicana as a kid so getting to throw these doors open again is a real honour. I hope everyone from Weston Super Mare will take the opportunity to once more stand in a puddle of murky water eating cold chips to the sound of children crying” He added; “This is a show that offers an escape from mindless escpism”.

The Dismaland theme park also features work from Damien Hirst, who is exhibiting one of his floating beachball sculptures. Knock over an anvil in David Shrigley’s game of skill and visit Jimmy Cauty Model Village, a hand crafted miniature world which will delight and amaze (and potentially cause seizures in persons sensitive to strobe lighting).

The event will take over the Tropicana Lido Park for six weeks.
