Goldsmiths University Unveil A Debut Series Of New Exhibitions

GOLDSMITHS UNIVERSITY

Goldsmiths are working alongside Red Bull to create a series of exhibitions with the third year Fine Art and History of Art students. The Second of the Goldsmiths Debut Series, titled Figure 2, will take place on March 14th at Red Bull Studios London. The Series was created as a collaboration with Goldsmiths and Red Bull to provide students with invaluable exhibition and collaborative experience which otherwise is increasingly hard to gain due to the on-going cuts faced by Art students nationwide.

Clemmie Seely, series curator, details, “Red Bull has given us all a unique opportunity to explore an exciting exhibition series in great location. These three shows will work as a build up to our Degree show in June, showing our work as it forms and provides us with a format that shows the unequalled kinship of our course.”

Each exhibition seeks to showcase the varied approaches by these artists to their practice, examining their development and exploration through varied media. With over 20 third year fine art and history of art students this tremendous calibre of talent gracing the studios of the South East London University, the 2013 Goldsmiths Debut Series bodes well to be the highlight of the student art calendar. Goldsmiths is responsible for 20 Turner Prize Winners and being a driving force behind the Brit Art pack that dominated the 90s art scene producing a number of distinguished alumni.

About the Exhibitions

Red Bull created the series along with Goldsmith students in 2012 in their ongoing support of the arts. This will be the second time the series goes live.

Acting as an introduction to the final exhibition the three pop-up shows, entitled Figure 1, Figure 2 and Figure 3, will offer an insight into a diverse cross section of approaches to contemporary art practice in their embryonic stages; as practices in progress. The shows also offer the participating artists a platform for an exercise in collaborative exhibition making. The exhibitions will take place at the Red Bull Studios, located on Tooley Street.

Previous graduate Matt Silcox shared his thoughts on last years exhibition programme: “Our involvement in the debut series gave us an invaluable opportunity to prepare for the impending degree show in a real world setting, to anticipate hurdles and develop strategies to overcome them together. It was loads of fun, too.”
