SP-Arte Brazil’s Leading Art fair Prepares For 2013 Opening

In the last few years Art in Brazil has been consolidated as one of most important markets in the world. This is reflected by a number of first rate art fairs cropping up in the country. SP-Arte has taken place since 2005 in São Paulo bringing together a mix of Modern and Contemporary art. In the beginning most galleries were Brazilian but as the fair evolved, the market has branched out opening up to international exhibitors. After the Art Basel and Frieze art fair brands, SP-Arte is the most relevant fair in the world, taking into account the final figure of art sold, its size and scope.

This year the intire Biennal building will receive the event as various galleries prepare their big openings, later on this week. Regina Silveira showing at the  Luciana Brito Gallery is one of most important artists from the 70 – 80’s generation with an impressive record in Visual Arts, participating in many exhibitions in Brazil and other countries.

SP-Arte will have seminal UK galleries including White Cube, Hauser Wirth, Lisson Gallery, Max Wigram Gallery, Pace Gallery, Sprovieri Gallery, and Spruth Magers, taking large stands to present their impressive roster of international artists.

A featured project entering its second year is the, “Curatorial Lab”. It brings together four young curators selected by the projects and using participating galleries at the fair to curate collections. There is also the possibility to visit important local museums by buying a ticket to the fair.

Leading Brazilian galleries will also present the most cutting edge art, including one of most important, Fortes Vilaça who will exhibit a large scale sculpture from the Peruvian artist Armando Andrade Tudela. Other highlights include, Central Galeria showing Marcela Tiboni’s fresh and eloquent photos. Galeria Lume will bring Gal Oppido and Martin Parr with exclusive selected photos critically exploring British society.
