The Royal Academy Summer/Winter Exhibition 2020 – Preview

The Royal Academy has against all odds unveiled its 252 annual Summer Exhibition. Today is ‘varnishing day’ where the artists can see their works for the first time in situ. Agreed it was supposed to take place in June as tradition dictates but these are unprecedented times and it is a relief that the exhibition has gone ahead at all.

The Antony Gormley solo exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts opens on 21 September. It’s a solo show rather than a retrospective but covers work from the 1970s to the present day. The exhibition fills all thirteen rooms of the Royal Academy’s Main Galleries bringing together both existing and specially conceived new works.

Relaunched Kettle’s Yard Seamlessly Blends Old And New

Kettle’s Yard in Cambridge reopens this week after a two-year redevelopment programme by Jamie Fobert Architects which includes major new exhibition galleries, generous education spaces and a cafe. Fobert is the new favourite architect of the museum world. Last year saw his completion of the extension at Tate St Ives, and he has just been appointed to undertake the £35.5m transformation of the National Portrait Gallery.

Art Dealer Anthony d’Offay Faces Inappropriate Behaviour Allegations

The art dealer Anthony d’Offay, who gave his £200m art collection to the nation and created Artist Rooms a touring exhibition which has had an audience of over 30 million is being investigated over historical allegations concerning his behaviour towards three women in the 1990s -2004. All were former employees.
