Cubitt Studios’ 30th Anniversary Kicks Off With Exhibition At Victoria Miro

Cubitt Studios

Leading artists donate works to a fundraising show hosted by Victoria Miro. On the 16th & 17th of September 2022 to kick off a year-long celebration of Cubitt’s 30th anniversary. Victoria Miro Gallery will present an exhibition and sell works by over 80 artists from Cubitt’s past and present. For 30 years, Cubitt has provided studio space for artists in Central London alongside a renowned non-profit gallery. The proceeds from the sale will go directly to ensuring the future of one of London’s most influential artist-led organisations.

Exhibiting artists include Tomma Abts, Flo Brooks, Helen Cammock, Angela De La Cruz, Billy Childish, Dexter Dalwood, Tacita Dean, Jeremy Deller, Roger Hiorns, Mark Leckey, Rosalind Nashashibi, Chris Ofili, Elizabeth Price, Cathy Wilkes, Joy Yamusangie.

A panel discussion and tour will take place within the exhibition on Saturday 17th September at 3 pm, when visitors can hear about Cubitt’s rich history from the people who made it.

Celebrations will continue onsite at Cubitt throughout the coming year, with open studios over Frieze weekend and events exploring Cubitt’s diverse curatorial practices. In addition, live performances and programming will continue in the gallery and local communities and on CCR, Cubitt’s community radio station.

CUBITT
Cubitt is an artist-led co-operative based in Islington, providing artist’s studios, a non-profit gallery, and a community-based arts programme. During the last 30 years, Cubitt has helped launch the careers of numerous artists and curators through its pioneering gallery programme, which has seen a new curator appointed every 18 months. Its alumni have been nominated for the Turner Prize and led significant galleries in the UK and abroad.

In a world increasingly dominated by pragmatism, the artist’s studio is one of society’s few openly experimental spaces. In recent years, Cubitt has taken this spirit of experimentation into its collaborations with key players in the social realm, placing artists and studios in schools, care settings, neighbourhood centres and housing estates. Driven by the energy and commitment of its members, Cubitt has become a highly-respected model for engagement with the visual arts and an essential part of London’s creative ecosystem.

Celebrations will continue onsite at Cubitt throughout the coming year, with open studios over Frieze weekend and events exploring Cubitt’s diverse curatorial practices. In addition, live performances and programming will continue in the gallery and local communities and on CCR, Cubitt’s community radio station.
