Body & Void: Echoes of Moore in Contemporary Art will be our most diverse exhibition to date. This ground-breaking exhibition will draw connections between Moore’s investigation of internal space and its relationship with the human body, and reveal how his ideas have been taken in new directions by subsequent generations of artists.
Featuring some of the most recognisable names in contemporary art, including Damien Hirst, Rachel Whiteread, Antony Gormley Body & Void will present current interpretations of some of Moore’s central themes – Mother and child, Internal and External forms and Figure in a Landscape – and present an an alternative trajectory for contemporary art contrasting with the historically accepted view of post-war Avant Garde.
New, site specific works by leading artists Richard Deacon and Richard Long have been commissioned as part of the exhibition.
Occupying the Sheep Field Barn gallery and Moore’s original carving studio as well as setting work against the verdant backdrop of the sculpture gardens and sheep fields, Body & Void will open on Thursday 1 May 2014.
